OK, the headstrong Mongrel has some pretty strong opinions on quite a few of these 2011 kids that I can back up. But I know you do too, so share them and I'll include your comments. Email me or just put them in the reader comments and I'll try to include most reasonable comments (and even some unreasonable ones if you're entertaining enough!). And remember, in the end I think most of this is debatable and depends less on analyzing these similar kids in the right order and more on their attitude, work ethic, and how well they fit in their chosen college so I'll even let you influence my ratings from time to time.
Lets get started! Here are some I expect to rank highly and I'll add a few state lists from some well known observers in all five of Mongreltopia's states (Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio). From the 2010 list I predictably had more input from the less populous basketball states of Indiana and Kentucky so speak up football country there is some fine hoops talent in your borders!

Bankhoops is always a good place to start with Michigan hoops, the link has all of their classes on same page by position. http://bankhoops.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=19&Itemid=70 and here is the ESPN list... http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/tracker/prospects?&pos=null&status=null&toggle=state&season=2011&state=MI&action=upsell&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fncb%2frecruiting%2ftracker%2fprospects%3f%26pos%3dnull%26status%3dnull%26toggle%3dstate%26season%3d2011%26state%3dMI
Let me know who I forgot, Illinois and Indiana are loaded to the gills in this class so I hope to get a few "what in the heck were you thinking leaving out so and so... " posts.
CJ Bates plays at SouthLake High School in St, Clair Shores, MI 6'4, 180lbs, very athletic, shooter, shot-blocker. Could be a real sleeper in Michigan Basketball 2011. Summer team (Showtime, and Full Court). Play well at Lebrons tounament, and bankhoops showcase.
ReplyDeleteZac VanDeWater
ReplyDeleteDon't know how you can put together a 2011 top 50 without Kody Chandler from Schoolcraft. As a sophmore he led his team to the State Championship game, led the state in free throw percentage, and is arguably the best pure shooter in his class if not Michigan. He has also proven himself to be among the best during the AAU season.
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen Bates but will put edit him into the bigger group, I'll try to keep up with him now.
ReplyDeleteZac VanDeWater is a fine suggestion, he's a very complete guard with good size on wing.
I know it is not the most important statistic in most cases, but I'm a sucker for truly excellent free throw shooting. Thanks for throwing that out there about Chandler.
Jakarr Sampson would should easily be in the top 25 for 2011 in those states.
ReplyDeleteTrey Babers (6-6 WF) of Saginaw, MI and TJ Buchanan (6-3 G) of Kalamazoo, MI.
ReplyDeleteTrey Burke is a top 25 at the very least. He has led his AAU Team to a National Runner-up as a freshman 15U, and then the actual National Champions as Sophomore 16U. He is the starting point guard on the best team in Ohio (Columbus Northland). Should be top 15 without a doubt. Don't ask me though ask the players he has played against.
ReplyDeleteDemarco Sanders 2010 Flint powerrs 6'3 pg-sg
ReplyDeleteTrey Burke is a stud. I would agree that he is top 25 material.
ReplyDeletewhen is this one coming out?
ReplyDeleteIts coming out today I hope. I had several great emails and haven't seen much of probably 1/3 of the kids on here so I have had to do more research than I anticipated. I could list 50 kids from the class off my own observations, but there are several who I haven't seen much of, or who weren't impressive when I saw them but have been extremely impressive against relevant competition from other reports. Sorry for the delay!
ReplyDeleteBurke just committed to Penn State yesterday.
ReplyDeleteNot a bad list you've accumulated. Couple comments on a couple of the kids. Trey Burke is the real deal. Penn State got a good one. Aaron White, OBC and Strongsville, is a 6'8" kid who is gettin lots of looks from Big D1 Schools. Very good 3 point shooter who is very versatile. Stevie Taylor is a heck of a point guard.
