* Still a draft, rankings on there are not final I haven't researched a handful of them and have more notes to go through from July but I thought I'd update the draft in case it inspired more commtents.*
OK, I think the more high school and AAU basketball I see the less I think of the wisdom of doing lists for freshmen and sophomores, its so hard to be consistent with balancing potential and current ability. So I need your help! I know who the best prospects I've seen are, and I've seen the majority of the high profile ones, many in July for the first time though. So give me your two cents in the comments section or email the Good Mongrel using the side bar. I'll research any player you advocate and if I find any support that the kid is actually close to what you say I'll get him on there somewhere.
Here is a rough start, I did this with the juniors and seniors in OH/IN/IL/MI/KY and the final list turned out a little different than where we started and I'm keeping this list pretty interactive so help me out!
Likely top 10 candidates:

Who am I leaving out? Let me know, I'll give it a few days to finish the list and make this one more interactive than even the 2011 list was. The photo above shows 2010 Indiana star Garrett Ross attacking Yogi Farrell, Marques Teague, Dejuan Marrero, and Raphael Davis.
I have two names Kellen dunham and Dylan Langkabel
ReplyDeleteRay Lee - 6'2" PG - Detroit Cass Tech
ReplyDeleteMongrel here - I haven't gone through my own July notes so I'll be adding some names today probably. Good call on Lee and Lankabel. Dunham is the shooter for Pendleton Heights, I haven't gotten to see him yet but have heard he's got plenty of high major interest so I'll put him in the mix. Let me know more about him if you watch him play much.
ReplyDeleteThe ESPN rankings I used in there aren't official rankings by the way. If you go to Scoutsinc.com they have a "prospects" link, click that then click 2012. The kids will be alphabetical but if you click "grade" you get them in the order espn has them graded. I use them instead of Scout and Rivals because its free and also because they have many more national scouts that contribute evaluations, usually guys with coaching experience. They don't have a great rep with some people because of the past, but last couple of years they get more eyes on more kids and they leave kids unranked they don't personally evaluate (with grades of 40). I love Rivals and Scout, but ESPN is free, more transparent about the truth of when they see kids, and better represented in different areas of the country. I love Evan Daniels and Dave Telep and all those guys and Rivals does a great job, but scoutsinc gets knocked around unfarily imo.
Langkabel and Dunham are both highly skilled, solid players. Dunham can shoot from anywhere ...that only adds to his game.
ReplyDeleteDesmond Ridenour 6'0 PG on the same (Cleveland)Benedictine team as Cameron Wright(your 2010 #10). With schools such as Florida, Penn State, Wisconsin, Michigan State coming to the open gyms to see this crafty yet explosive young player he is definitely one to watch for.
ReplyDeleteThese are the Illinois top point Guards and I call them the Magnificent Seven.
ReplyDelete1. Keith Carter
2. Malcolm Hill-bey
3. Janleni Neely
4. Jordan Foster
5. Aaron Simpson
6. Derrick Randolph
7. Antonio Drummond
I did not see Keith Carter name at all and Jordan Foster has the most balance attack defensively and Offensively. These two is a must top 50.
wow, Carter is a glaring omission, i've covered his exploits in this blog a few times
ReplyDeletehaven't seen foster so glad for the input there too
i'm still in the middle of going through my own notes from july, made it through the old emails though i'll get carter put in somewhere up there, also think i have a couple of other kids too low right now (raphael davis for example) will keep looking for input before i unleash the final list thanks again
Desmond Ridenour from Benedictine in Cleveland played on the same AAU team (OBC) as Kyle Molock(Purdue) was a heckuva back court that gave the oposition fits. He's more of a PG than Kyle was though. he's a gamer. smooth smooth stroke. penetrates almost effortlessly because you never know what he's gonna do.
ReplyDeleteMongrel here - Do you think Ridenour is as good a college prospect as Molock? How do they fit in?
ReplyDeleteIs Ridenour as good a prospect as Jackson was at that age?
You have Kaminski as #5. The scary thing is at the end of the day #5 may be too low.
ReplyDeleteWhat is some the top AAU Teams in the Midwest or list the up and coming new teams for the 15u,16u and 17u. For Indiana,Michigan and Illinois.
ReplyDeleteI saw OBC play many times this summer, Ridenour is a nice player and has the potential to be very good, but Kyle Molock was a pg who could do it all and seemed to take over games.
ReplyDeleteSome of the top teams around are Indiana Elite (Indiana) , NLP (Illinois), All-Ohio Red (Ohio), Rising Stars (Illinois), Speice Indy Heat (Indiana), Speice Indy Stars (Indiana). All from what I've seen.
ReplyDeleteAnyone ever heard of Roo Standeford, a junior at Southwestern High School in Shelbyville, IN? He's helped the Spartans beat Dylan Langkabel and the Morristown Jackets twice this year. I also understand that he's second in scoring in the county. He's one to watch! I'd like to see some game tapes . . .
ReplyDeleteterry rozier 5'10 pg shaker heights and luke heben 6'1 pg from benedictine (ohio)...rozier best scoring pg i've seen around north east ohio, luke is the true pg ive seen that knows the game and is a pass first pg...
ReplyDeleteterry rozier 5'10 pg shaker heights and luke heben 6'1 pg from benedictine (ohio)...rozier best scoring pg i've seen around north east ohio, luke is the best true pg ive seen in north east ohio that knows the game and is a pass first pg... both in class of 2012
